Integrated Information of Highway Bus Routes

With the development of technology, information becomes more accessible to people. However, it is still difficult for the public to find traffic info which is not well-integrated and distributed via a single platform. To meet people’s right to know and enable them to query bus information such as routes, stop information, etc. The “Highway Bus Information System” was announced to public in 2009.

At the beginning, the system cannot fully satisfy the local government with managing information efficiently with WebGIS surface and allow the public to easily query bus info due to discordant formats of bus stops.

The project is set up to investigate and compile the information of bus routes and stops thoroughly in Taiwan; additionally to comprehensively integrate spatial and attribute data which is related to countrywide operating bus routes of the 1,300 roads.

By accessing the system, the public can query needed bus information via the Internet, mobile phones, or telephones and receive references for planning their itineraries. For the government, the Highway Bus Information System not only promotes the use of public transportation but also help achieve the goal of “Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction.”
